Item No. 16 <br />memorandum <br />TO: Mayor & City Council <br />FROM: John Godwin, City Manager <br />SUBJECT: ANNUAL DEPARTMENT REPORTS <br />DATE: June 2, 2016 <br />BACKGROUND: As we have done the last couple of years, we are beginning our budget <br />preparation cycle with annual reports on each of our departments. This provides the council an <br />opportunity to learn what the departments are working on, what their major needs are, and any <br />special issues they face as we plan for the future. These priorities and needs in turn determine <br />our budget, instead of a long list of tedious line items. It also helps us think in terms of multiple <br />years, which is crucial to managing an efficient and effective overall budget and organization. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: Public Works, Engineering, Utilities, and Finance will present their <br />reports on June 13. In addition we will receive a presentation about the previously discussed <br />public information office as part of the Finance presentation. We will address EMS, Police, Fire, <br />and Library on June 27. <br />BUDGET: NA. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Discussion only. <br />
