Item No. 12
memorandum
TO: Mayor & City Council
FROM: John Godwin, City Manager
SUBJECT: EMS STATION ARCHITECT
DATE: October 3, 2016
BACKGROUND: The city council recently approved funding to hire an architect to provide
necessary design and other related services for construction of a new EMS station in northwest
Paris. This station, located on 19th NW, will replace the station now located inside PRMC. The
structure will be very simple, essentially a metal building with two ambulance bays, a dayroom
and kitchen, and two bedrooms.
STATUS OF ISSUE: We received three architectural proposals, two from out -of -town firms and
one from Paris. Ron Hobbs Architects from Garland, which specializes in municipal building
projects, has been in business for very many years and has successfully completed a huge
number of public safety projects, including fire and EMS stations. Based on those successful
projects, and my having worked well with him in the past, I believe he will serve our current
needs the best.
BUDGET: Up to $30,000 has been included in the 2016 -17 operating budget.
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize city manager to execute an agreement with Ron Hobbs
Architects for design and related tasks for construction of a new EMS station.
