Item No. 29
memorandum
TO: City Council
John Godwin, City Manager
FROM: Carla Easton, PE, City Engineer
SUBJECT: NAMING OF EXISTING CITY STREET ON N MAIN AT CAMPBELL'S
SOUP TRUCK ENTRANCE
DATE: December 5, 2016
BACKGROUND: There is an existing City ROW and 675' long street intersecting N Main at
the Campbell's Soup truck entrance that is currently unnamed. The street has served as a
driveway for Campbell's Soup trucks for many years without issues, as no other properties were
developed along this street. In September of this year, construction of a Love's Travel Stop and
Country Store was permitted on the property at the intersection of N Main and the subject City
street. The development will increase truck traffic and vehicular traffic at the intersection. The
developer has partnered with TxDOT for the extension of turn lanes and the installation of a
traffic signal at the intersection, which is currently operational.
STATUS OF ISSUE: In order to appropriately route emergency responders to any incidents at
this intersection, the existing City street needs to be assigned a name. There is already a
Campbell Street in town, and any use of the word Campbell in the name is discouraged for
public safety and emergency response. Staff requests guidance for assigning a name to this
existing street.
Listed below are a few names for consideration:
1. Soup Drive
2. Pace Place
3. Trucking Plaza
BUDGET: N \A
RECOMMENDATION: Assign a street name.
