I
memorandum
TO: City Council
John Godwin, City Manager
FROM: Bob Hundley, Chief of Police
SUBJECT: RECOGNITION OF AMANDA WILLOWS & COLEMAN MORRIS
DATE: November 13, 2016
BACKGROUND: On July 91h, four Dallas Police Officers and one Dallas Area Rapid Transit
police officer were killed by a sniper using a high powered rifle. As a result of that attack, Brandi
Leber of Hopkins County founded the Adopt -A -Cop Foundation. Amanda Willows and Coleman
Morris, residents of Lamar county decided to begin an extension of that organization here in
Lamar County.
The organization here brought in enough donations to provide every peace officer in Lamar
County, 132 officers, an armor vest capable of stopping high powered rifle rounds. This was
accomplished in a little over 48 hours. They then took the program a step further and provided a
ballistic helmet for all officers in Lamar County. The average cost for the vest and helmet is
around $450.
STATUS OF ISSUE: All vests and helmets have been purchased and presented to the officers of
Lamar County.
BUDGET: There is no impact to the budget. The helmets and vests presented to the Paris Police
Officers are valued at a little over $27,000.00.
RECOMMENDATION: Recognize Amanda Willows and Coleman Morris for their leadership
of in raising funds for the purchase of these potentially lifesaving equipment.
