Item No. 9 <br />memorandum <br />TO: Mayor & City Council <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Janice Ellis, City Clerk <br />SUBJECT: DESIGNATION OF ONE ALTERNATE TO THE ZONING BOARD OF <br />ADJUSTMENT <br />DATE: January 25, 2017 <br />BACKGROUND: Section 16 -100 of the City Zoning Ordinance requires five members be <br />appointed to serve on the Zoning Board of Adjustment, each to serve for a term of two years. <br />The policy also allows for City Council to appoint two alternate members, who shall serve in the <br />absence of one more of the regular members. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: The Board has been operating regularly with four members due to an <br />illness of one of the members. There are instances when four votes are necessary in order to <br />approve an item, which could create a hardship for the City to conduct regular business in certain <br />instances. <br />City staff advertised for two alternate positions with the Paris News, EParis Extra, as well as the <br />City's web -site. City staff previously received one application for two alternate positions, and <br />one alternate was appointed by City Council on January 9. Since that time, City staff has <br />received an application from Mihir "Mark" Pankaj. <br />BUDGET: N/A <br />RECOMMENDATION: Appoint one member to serve in an alternate position. <br />
