Paris Public Library Advisory Board
Minutes
August 17, 2011
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met Wednesday afternoon, August 17, 2011, at 4 o'clock in the library
gallery. Attending were Deborah Hatley, Pat Books, Alice Woodard, Linda Vandiver, Hilda Mallory, Debbie
Anderson, and Library Director Priscilla McAnally. Chairwoman Linda Vandiver called the meeting to order.
Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as printed.
The Director distributed sample long -range plans and asked the board to be thinking about a 5 -year plan for the
library. One project that needs to be considered is expanding library space into the basement. More workspace
and shelf space is needed along with meeting rooms for teens and children.
Makynzi Watson has been hired to fill the part-time clerk's position.
The Board elected Fran Neeley as the new NETLS lay representative. Alice Woodard will serve as the alternate.
One question on the budget and statistical reports was the expenditure for unemployment compensation
benefits. The Director will make inquiries on this line item.
The library's public copier has worn out. A new one has been leased from Office Equipment Center for $80 a
month which includes maintenance. This one will be used by staff, and the copier currently used by staff will be
moved for public use.
The Director has received a quote of $1300 41400 for exterior painting of railings and windows. This work
will be done in October.
The City Council is considering charging a library user fee to people living outside the city limits. The board
agrees that if a fee is charged at all, it should be a nominal fee - perhaps $10. There are approximately 4000
cardholders outside the city, but the past experience is that a very small percentage will pay the fee.
There being no further business on the agenda, the meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
Submitted by,
Debbie Anderson, Secretary
