Paris Public Library Advisory Board
Minutes
January 20, 2010
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met Wednesday afternoon, January 20, 2010, at 4
o'clock in the Library Gallery. Chairman Bill Kennedy presided. Also attending were
members Hilda Mallory, Debbie Anderson, Linda Vandiver, Deborah Hatley, and Eddie
Poole and Library Directory Priscilla McAnally.
Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as printed.
Plans are being made to refurbish the entrance doors to the library. Lighting has been
replaced in the director's office and the restrooms. This required all the money allocated from
the Lone Star Library grant plus $400 from the library budget. Lighting in the Children's
room and the periodicals area will be replaced at a later date. At the last meeting, new light
fixtures for the front of the library near the old entrance were discussed. Those fixtures will
not be practical. Instead, new ceiling fans with lights and remote controls will probably be
installed.
With the popularity of the Kindle and the Nook, Priscilla will look into the possibilities of an
ebook library.
There was no budget report. Statistical report showed library visits to be up significantly over
last year.
The program the library subscribed to for downloading videos has been discontinued. We
have a $360 credit with that company. They offer foreign language courses, and our credit
can be applied toward that. It will take an additional $1700 to subscribe.
The Friends of the Library reported a balance of $14,000. There will be no spring luncheon at
the country club. Priscilla has suggested having a small catered luncheon at the library.
Suggestions for a speaker are welcome.
The meeting adjourned for Smith Island cake baked by the Director. The consensus of the
Board was that it was quite scrumptious.
Submitted by,
Debbie Anderson, Secretary
