Paris Public Library Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />April 21, 2010 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in the Library Gallery at 4 p.m., April 21, 2010, with Chairman <br />Bill Kennedy presiding. Those in attendance were Linda Vandiver, Deborah Hatley, Hilda Mallory, Debbie <br />Anderson, Library Director Priscilla McAnally, and Friends of the Library Co -Chair Amanda Green. <br />The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as printed. <br />The Director reported on her trip to Portland. She has purchased from Library Ideas movies on flash drive <br />starting with a collection of 40 movies. They will be shelved in the same manner as the DVD collection. She <br />has also subscribed to downloadable music. Fifty -six songs a week from a Sony catalog of 600,000 songs will <br />be made available to patrons at no cost to the patron. The songs will cost the library $1.24 per download. Each <br />patron will be limited to one song per week. Cost of the movies and the music is about $5000 taken from the <br />materials budget, leaving a balance of $38,000. <br />Computer classes begin May 17. Courtney and Cara will start with a beginner class limited to 10 people. <br />Hilda Mallory and Deborah Hatley have expiring terms on the Board. The Director will recommend that they <br />retain their seats. <br />Next year's budget, basically the same as this year's, has been submitted. <br />The front sign is still in the planning stages. Landscaping for it is being planned as well. <br />Circulation was down a bit but number of library visits was up over last year. Twelve enjoyed the Wii game <br />day. 170 new cards were issued. Both volunteer hours and reserves were up. <br />The Friends have ordered new tote bags for sale, and they purchased finger puppets for the children's section. <br />The Director will speak to Johnnye Robertson about giving a program on the screenplay she is writing, and <br />perhaps get local actors to do a reading. <br />Getting downloadable audio books is on hold right now since OCLC, the vendor, has sold to another company. <br />The Director will speak to the Lion's Club on May 6. <br />There being no further business on the agenda, the Chairman adjourned the meeting at 4:30 p.m. <br />Submitted by, <br />Debbie Anderson, Secretary <br />
