Paris Public Library Advisory Board
January 21, 2009
4 p.m.
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met Wednesday afternoon, January 21, 2009, at 4 o'clock in the
Library Gallery. Chairman Bill Kennedy presided. In addition to Library Director Priscilla McAnally, members
attending were Jackie Alsobrook, Hilda Mallory, Deborah Hatley, Linda Vandiver, and Debbie Anderson.
Cara Sulsar has resigned to further her education. Her position has been posted.
In the coming months, the Friends of the Library will sponsor a presentation by author and former Paris
firefighter Eddie Fitzgerald. Eddie's book, After the Fare, recounts firehouse pranks. Other possibilities for
programs are Wendell Tallant, Jim Ainesworth, and a young Lamar county children's book author.
The Friends have agreed to finance an Elmo. Prices range from $695 to $2695. A possibility to supplement the
cost is from the Lone Star Library funds.
Jackie Alsobrook made a motion to elect Linda Vandiver as vice - chairman of the board. Deborah Hatley
seconded and the motion carried.
There was nothing unusual in the budget report. Expenditures as a percentage of the budget are right where they
should be. Statistical report reflected increases over 2007 in both circulation and library visits.
The Friends spring luncheon is still on track for March 24 at the Paris Golf and Country Club with speaker
Kathleen Kent. The Friends are arranging a book - signing for Delbert Davis for his Life and Times of Delbert
Davis. They will also pay for a cordless clip -on microphone for the summer reading program.
There being no further business on the agenda, the meeting was adjourned at 4:27 p.m.
Note: Thanks to Linda Vandiver for starting the minutes due to the late arrival of the secretary.
Submitted by,
Debbie Anderson, Secretary
