MINUTES
REGULAR MEETING
CITY OF PARIS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MONDAY, MARCH 22, 2010
4:00 O'CLOCK P.M.
1. The Historic Preservation Commission meeting was called to order by Arvin Starrett, Chairman at
3:58 p.m.
A. The following members were present:
Arvin Starrett, Chairman
Douglas Cox
Ben Vaughan
Jerry Raper
Matt Coyle
B. The following members were absent:
Susan Scholz, Secretary
Paul Denney, Vice - Chairman
C. Also present was Jeanna Scott, City Staff; and Cheri Bedford, Main Street Coordinator.
2. Approval of minutes from previous minutes. (March 10, 2010)
Motion was made by Ben Vaughan, seconded by Matt Coyle to approve the minutes for the March
10, 2010 meeting. Motion carried 5 -0.
3. Consideration of and action on the following Certificates ofAppropriateness:
A. 1181 St Street S.E. — Alex Pickering, Scott's Custom Signs, presented the petition. Ms.
Pickering stated the whole store front is 55 linear feet; the total amount of signage is 23
square feet. Commissioners expressed concern over the amount of signage versus the
window area. Moved to item 3B, while Alex Pickering measured window area.
A 1351St Street S.E. — Richard Hunt, contractor, presented the petition. Mr. Hunt stated
proposing to remodel the fagade of the City Attorney's office. Originally they wanted to
repaint the brick. However, after learning this is not appropriate for the Historic District,
they will come back on the brick. At this time Mr. Hunt is proposing to remove the brick
planter out front, remove existing metal and glass store front and rebuild to match the store
fronts directly to the north of the building. The recessed store front will have a false front
door and the transom windows will be replaced with metal blanker panels to match the store
fronts to the north of the building. Mr. Hunt further stated they will remove and repair the
flashing. Ben Vaughan stated you cannot replace the transom window with metal x panels.
You will need to use concrete board and finish it out to look like a window. Mr. Hunt stated
that would not be a problem. Motion was made Ben Vaughan, seconded by Jerry Raper to
approve the COA with the falling exception, the transom windows be trimmed out to
resemble a window. Motion carried 5 -0.
