MINUTES REGULAR MEETING CITY OF PARIS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2009 12:00 O'CLOCK P.M. 1. The Historic Preservation Commission meeting was called to order by Arvin Starrett, Chairman. A. The following members were present: Arvin Starrett, Chainnan Douglas Cox Ben Vaughan Jerry Raper Matt Coyle B. The following members were absent: Susan Scholz, Secretary Paul Denney, Vice - Chairman C. Also present was Jeanna Scott, City Staff. 2. Consideration of and action on the following Certificates of Appropriateness: A. 23 East Plaza — Britin Bostick, 222 E. Hickory, presented the petition. Ms. Bostick stated the sign request will be temporary. The signs will be in place until the election on November 4, 2010. Ms. Bostick further stated there will be two signs, one will be a door sign and the other sign will be placed on the canopy. Motion was made by Ben Vaughan, seconded by Matt Coyle to approve the COA. Motion carried 5 -0. B. 265 South Main Street — Britin Bostick, 222 E. Hickory, presented the petition. Ms. Bostick stated there is an accessory building attached to the east side of the building and the structure is dilapidated and structurally unsound. Ms. Bostick further stated they believe it to once be a kitchen for the hotel; however, they have not been able to verify that information. HWH will only be removing the sides of the structure, the roof looks to be a support structure for the fire escape, therefore they are afraid to remove it, and the fire escape could fall. There will be further investigation regarding the roof as they go forward. Motion was made by Ben Vaughan, seconded by Jerry Raper to approve the COA. Motion carried 5 -0. 3. Request for future agenda items. Report on utility district meeting from Matt Coyle. Report from HPO in January. Report from BSC on Historic District Demolition by neglect from Robert Talley.
