MINUTES <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />CITY OF PARIS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2009 <br />4:00 O'CLOCK P.M. <br />1. The Historic Preservation Commission meeting was called to order by Arvin Starrett, <br />Chairman. <br />A. The following members were present: <br />Arvin Starrett, Chairman <br />Douglas Cox <br />Ben Vaughan <br />Jerry Raper <br />Matt Coyle <br />B. The following members were absent: <br />Susan Scholz, Secretary <br />Paul Denney, Vice - Chairman <br />C. Also present was Jeanna Scott, City Staff. <br />2. Approval of minutes from previous meetings. (November 13, 2009) <br />Motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes for the November 13, 2009 <br />meeting. Motion carried 5 -0. <br />3. Consideration of and action on the following Certificates of Appropriateness: <br />A. Southwest Corner of Grand Avenue and 3rd Street S. W. — Major Ellis, Salvation <br />Army, presented the petition. Major Ellis stated the Salvation Army had purchased <br />the lot directly to the east of the current property. They are asking for the <br />commission's approval to remove the dilapidated structure that currently sits on this <br />property. Major Ellis further stated they will be using the lot as a parking area for the <br />Salvation Army Store, at this time he was also asking approval to add a section of <br />chain link fence where the building will be removed to secure the property. Motion <br />was made and seconded to approve the removal of the building only, the fence was <br />denied. Motion carried 5 -0. <br />4. Discussion of and possible action on ideas for handouts to local real estate agents and <br />Paris Downtown Associates on the role of HPC in regards to downtown. Ben Vaughan <br />presented ideas to the commission. No action taken. <br />5. Discussion of'the duties of members of the HPC. Commissioners discussed handouts. <br />
