February 14, 2007 <br />Page 2 <br />Sybil Colson owns property directly behind Mr. Sanchez. She spoke in <br />favor of Mr. Sanchez's application. She has a metal roof and other <br />houses have metals roves in the historic district. She stated that it <br />would not hurt the value of the property and he should be allowed to <br />have the roof. <br />Karen Lodes, 840 S. Main Street, wants something done. Plastic has <br />been on the roof for two years and she is tired of plastic and debris <br />flying about the yard. <br />Arvin Starrett asked if anyone was present to speak in opposition of the <br />application for a metal roof. Susan Scholz read a letter from <br />"Concerned Citizens of the Church Street Historic District" opposing <br />the metal roof. <br />With no other opposition, the public hearing was closed at 12:05 p.m. <br />Arvin Starrett reminded HPC members that they are here to make a <br />decision on the appropriateness of the roof only. Mr. Starrett stated <br />that the metal roof was not appropriate and did not meet HPC <br />standards and guidelines previously set down. A motion was made to <br />deny the COA by Pike Burkhart, seconded by Susan Scholz. Motion <br />carried 7 -0. <br />B. 1031 S. Church Street- Warren Todd Miller- Chairman Starrett declared <br />the public hearing open. Mr. Miller stated he wants to demolish garage. <br />He stated that the structure is in danger of falling in. No other people <br />requested to speak. <br />Mr. Starrett stated he had seen the structure and believed it be a <br />dangerous structure. A motion was made to approve the COA by Ann <br />Rogers, seconded by Susan Scholz. Motion carried 7 -0. <br />4. Receipt of report from the Historic Preservation Officer. Due to the absence <br />of the HPO because of illness, there was no report. <br />5. Request items for future agendas. None <br />6. The meeting adjourned at 12:15 p.m. <br />
