Motion carried 5 -0.
Barbara Wilson stated they tried to spot clean the brick wall; however,
it had been painted with some type of industrial bonding that could not
be stripped. Therefore, they would like to paint the brick on the lower
part to match the brick that is exposed above. She proposed painting
a hint of a mural with the sky painted on the top jagged portion with
suggestion of greenery growing down over the edge. The colors for
the sky are very muted and the green will not speak to you loudly.
Motion to approve by Brian Wear, seconded by Sue Lancaster. Motion
carried 5 -0.
C. 221 S. Main Street- Gibraltar Renovations. Barbara Wilson stated this
application is for cosmetic facade work to be done on the old Harold
Hodges Insurance building. The canopy on the front is to be repaired,
some of the metal is patched metal and some is missing. The repair is
to be made with metal that matches the color of the gray verticals on
the front. Also, a piece of metal is missing on the side, and they plan
to patch it and match the color of the blue metal on the side. They plan
to clean off the industrial grade paint by washing it and hopefully have
a brick colored side. Motion to approve by Paul Denney, seconded by
Brian Wear. Motion carried 5 -0. Motion to bring Barbara Wilson back
to the meeting was made by Sue Lancaster, seconded by Paul Denney.
Motion carried 5 -0.
D. 1161st Street S.E. - Walt Brown. There are two parts, one with banner
and the other with signage. Arvin explained that the sign moratorium
has been extended for another 30 days. The moratorium is only
provisional against new signage thatwould fall outside the scope of the
current ordinance. There have been no sign permits denied during the
moratorium. The ones proposed today are fixtures that are already in
place. Walt Brown stated that the large graphic sign will go in the front
door, it will be 16" in height and the glass itself will be 2 feet. There will
be vinyl lettering on the outside of the glass with a white piece of
acrylic behind the glass itself. Mr. Brown knows that there cannot be
any lighting. Walt Brown agreed for the white MDF to replace the glass.
Metal will be used if there is not enough room for the MDF. Chairman
Starrett stated that new sign ordinance is mocking the design
guidelines which calls for wood or metal for signage downtown.
