June 23, 2005
Page 2
hangar to hangar.
G. Item 2.R. - The Board stated that not all planes could be insured and
requested that the provision requiring liability insurance be removed.
They asked the Airport Director to contact local insurance companies
to see what kind of renter's insurance a tenant could obtain to help
protect the City.
The Board requested that the proposed changes be made and that this item
be continued to the next meeting for review of the amended lease.
4. Discussion of and possible action on setting priorities for a possible RAMP
grant. The Board recommended that a RAMP grant be sought for the
following items: (1) repair of the tarmac in front of Smyers' hangar; (2) repair
of concrete around the refueling area; (3) repair of asphalt in front of the old
hangars; (4) raising the drainage ditch; and (4) construction of more taxiways
to the west or north.
5. Receipt of report from the Airport Director. The Airport Director asked Jack
Ashmore to report on the static display. Mr. Ashmore stated that he had
received a list of available planes from the Airport Director. He stated that an
F -15 was in one piece, so there was no way to get it here. He advised that
Smyers' trailer was limited to 35'. He stated that a T -33 was 34', and an F -86
was 37', which was still okay. He said the F -86 is a very popular plane; it is to
Americans what MIGs are to Russians. The consensus of the Board was to
seek an F -86. The Board asked the Airport Director to contact Pat Ochs to
find out the locations of F -86s and what condition the planes were in.
Mr. Ashmore stated he had no report on the Airshow Subcommittee, but
would have something to report next month.
Glenn Chapman stated the Billy Copeland would be at the next meeting to
discuss fly -ins.
The Airport Director reported that the owners of the WWII museum had been
requested to provide financials to the City and the PEDC since the PEDC
would be providing funds to help build water lines for the museum. The
purpose is to ensure that they can afford to build what they say they'll build.
As of this date, no financials have been provided.
She also reported that the City Council would be considering a lease
agreement with Knox Aerial Flying at its meeting on the 27th for a small tract
by the RCAG building. They were awarded the boll weevil contract for this
