Lamar County Multi- Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan
Chapter Three
8. Overall Summary of Vulnerability and Impacts
Many dams in Texas have recently received upgraded hazard levels due to the increase in
downstram development. In the future more dams will be constructed while at the same time
existing dams will reach their designed life spans. This will expose the public to a greater risk
from the dam failure hazard. TCEQ recongnizing these issues has recently updated their Dam
Safety Program rules and regulations.
There is no record of dam failure occurring within the county and although the county has 4 high
hazard dam, no detailed studies exist. Surge waves resulting from dam breaks have the
potential to create major losses. Modern predictions of dam breaks rely on numerical
predictions created using limited data.
Lamar County is looking into the financing of a Dam Study. This study would give valuable
insight on the severity, probability and vulnerability of the county to dam Failure event. The
study would facilitate the need for updating the entire Dam Failure section of this plan.
Table 8: Summary
City of Paris
Limited
ty of Fut
Unlikely
pill
Low
City of Blossom
Limited
Unlikely
Low
City of Deport
Limited
Unlikely
Low
City of Reno
Limited
Unlikely
Low
City of Roxton
Limited
Unlikely
Low
Lamar County
Limited
Unlikely
Low
129
