Lamar County Multi- jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan <br />Chapter Two <br />2.3 GOALS OF THE MITIGATION PLANNING PROCESS <br />Through the hazard mitigation planning process, Lamar County and the 8 jurisdictions plan to <br />achieve the following goals: <br />Goal 1: Minimize potential impacts for existing structures and properties from natural hazards. <br />Goal 2: Minimize potential impacts for future developments from natural hazards. <br />Goal 3: Facilitate a sustainable economy by protecting agriculture, businesses /industries, <br />infrastructure and other economic activities from natural hazards. <br />Goal 4: Support the goals and objectives established in the State of Texas Hazard Mitigation Plan. <br />2.4 HAZARD MITIGATION PLANNING TEAM <br />The Lamar County Multi- jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Planning Team (HMPT) was formed to <br />provide guidance during the preparation of the Plan. Team members are listed in Table 2:4. The <br />team was comprised of private citizens, local organizations, representatives from Lamar County <br />and local jurisdictions, businesses and emergency response personnel. Representation for the <br />Planning Team was from recommendations from the County judge's office, Emergency <br />Management office, and local jurisdictions. A list of 203 potential Hazard Mitigation Team members <br />including individuals from the media, banking, insurance, volunteer services, nonprofits, <br />agricultural recovery programs, building codes and permits, businesses and industry, churches, <br />Council of Government, Dam Safety and Management, development and planning, drainage and <br />flood control, emergency preparedness and response, fiscal and funding resources, health and <br />human services, historical preservation, parks and recreation, education, realtors, river authority, <br />elected officials, and utilities. No one wishing to serve on the team was excluded from participation. <br />Contacted individuals were encouraged to bring other interested citizens. The meetings were open <br />to the public. Numerous meetings were held during the development of this plan. <br />The first meeting was dedicated to the identification and discussion of the natural hazards most <br />likely to impact Lamar County. The planning process and contacts for the plan development were <br />also established. <br />42 <br />
