Item No. 8 <br />memorandum <br />TO: City Council <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Bob Hundley, Chief of Police <br />SUBJECT: INTERLOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGREEMENT WITH NORTH <br />LAMAR SCHOOL DISTRICT <br />DATE: March 7t", 2017 <br />BACKGROUND: The police department has furnished three officers to the North Lamar School <br />District in the role of School Resource Officers for several years by contract. NLISD has elected <br />to form their own Police Department with sworn peace officers instead of paying for Paris <br />officers assigned to their district. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: Texas Education Code 37.081(g) requires that the two agencies, NLISD <br />PD and the Paris PD, outline reasonable communication and coordination efforts between the <br />two agencies. <br />BUDGET: There is no present impact to the budget. We are under contract to furnish three <br />officers to the district through August 31 st, 2017. At that time, we will need to consider <br />eliminating three officer positions from the department. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution for the Interlocal agreement. <br />
