<br />--I <br /> <br />., <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. qq-10l <br /> <br />WHEREAS, federal funds from the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program, <br />provided for by the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), are available for <br />projects that have a relationship to the surface transportation system, dedicaling funding for <br />important, non-traditional, transporlation-related activities, wilh the goal of encouraging diverse <br />modes of travel, increasing the community benefits to transportation investment, strengthening <br />partnerships between State and local governments, and promoting citizen involvement in <br />transportation decisions; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation has the responsibility for selecting <br />and funding eligible projects within the State, and approximately $128 million worth of projecls <br />are expected to be funded under the 1999 can for nominations; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, CHRISTUS St. Joseph's Health Center has committed to the rehabilitation <br />of the Gibralter Hotel and Red Ball Union Bus Station from its current dilapidated condition into <br />a facility for public use known as the Prime Time Senior Activity Center; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris, as the nominating entity, deems it <br />appropriate to authorize that an application be made for the Statewide Transportation Enhancement <br />Program grant for the rehabilitation of the Red Ball Union Bus Station at a total cost of <br />$2,010,630.00, with $1,608,504.00 to be provided by grant and $402,126.00 to be provided by <br />the CHRISTUS St. Joseph's Health Center in the form of local funds; NOW, THEREFORE, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS: <br /> <br />1. That the City Council authorizes, as nominating entity, the application for the Statewide <br />Transportation Enhancement Program entitled "Prime Time at the Red Ball Union Station" <br />and requests funding for the same in the amount of $1,608,504.00, being approximately <br />80% of the estimated cost of the rehabilitation project, with CHRISTUS St. Joseph's <br />Health Center providing $402,126.00 in matching cash funding. <br /> <br />2. That the Cily Council recommends that the Prime Time project be selected for funding <br />through the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program. <br /> <br />3. That Michael E. Malone, City Manager, be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to <br />execute, on behalf of the City of Paris, the Texas Department of Transportation Statewide <br />Transportation Enhancement Program Project Nomination Form, under the terms and <br />conditions and in the form shown in Exhibit A, attached hereto. <br /> <br />PASSED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of August, 1999. <br /> <br />
