PEDC Board Meeting Minutes
June 13, 2017
Discuss the Executive Director's travel.
Mr. Paris started by saying that the Board was emailed on the marketing activities planned. Mr. Wilson
had requested that the marketing activities planned for the year were discussed at a Board Meeting
where the public was present. Ms. Harris was asked if the Board Members could make suggestions on
the travel items listed and she answered that it could be discussed but not acted on. Mr. Wilson
clarified that the travel discussion he requested was not about the dollar value of the travel as the
newspaper reported. It was about the Board having input into which marketing activities the Executive
Director selected. Mr. Paris stated that when we participate in events with TEAM Texas we benefit
from all of TEAM Texas' interactions during the event. Last month the AUVSI XPONETIAL was in
Dallas showing unmanned vehicles. The Select USA Investment Summit is coming up soon and
appointments are already being set. These prospects are foreign direct investments. IFT (Institute of
Food Technology) Conference & Expo is the food expo. WESTEC is a manufacturing event in Los
Angeles. IEDC Annual Conference is in Toronto, Canada. IAMC Annual Forum is in Richmond, VA.
In Mr. Paris' opinion, it is one of the biggest conferences for site selectors. Team Texas Road Show is
on the calendar for October. TEDC Annual Conference in Houston has professional development and
contact development on the agenda. FabTech Expo showcases manufacturing equipment and products;
and draws in the decision makers. The budget estimate for marketing travel is $36,850. Mr. Wilson
asked what WESTEC was. Mr. Paris answered that WESTEC is a manufacturing show that exhibits
manufacturing equipment very similar to FabTech. Mr. Wilson stated that he had a problem with IEDC
and WESTEC. Mr. Hughes asked Mr. Paris about the "pros" that put WESTEC the list. Mr. Paris said
that we leverage our marketing dollars by teaming up with TEAM Texas. Mr. Wilson withdrew his
dislike of WESTEC marketing travel. Mr. Paris asked if anyone had issues with TEAM Texas travel.
Mr. Manning reminded everyone that they voted "Yes" on TEAM Texas last year.
Executive Director's Monthly Report.
• Turner Industries had a Grand Opening celebration of their new 26,000 sq. ft. building.
This building has 27 offices, 72 cubicles, 5 conference rooms, 1 medical room, and 1
employee lounge. The Paris Economic Development played a small part by helping with
infrastructure up to the facility.
• The Texas Economic Development Conference took place in Plano. There is excitement
over Toyota choosing Plano for its headquarters. In fact the whole Metroplex was
chosen because of the workforce.
• The unmanned aviation conference in Dallas was held in early May and there are two
leads that I continue to communicate with. Both are new businesses with equity capital.
• Select USA is next week. Working with leads, I have ten appointments set up; I'll be
working to increase that by another twenty appointments.
• We are preparing for City Council's choice of one or two new Board Members.
• We will be submitting a project plan and scope of work to the Board.
• Mr. Banks, Mr. Brockman and I have been working on the Policies & Procedures
Manual. We will put that on hold until we have a new Board in place.
