<br />~ <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 99-079 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris finds that the public interest and welfare <br />will be served by the adoption and establishment of a policy to guide the City regarding the matter <br />addressed in this resolution; NOW, THEREFORE, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS that: <br /> <br />I. It is the policy of this City to comply with all requirements of the Open Meetings Act of the <br />State of Texas, and with all requirements of the City Charter pertaining to open meetings <br /> <br />2. In order to implement the policy established by this Resolution, the City shall require all <br />persons who serve in any capacity or in any position affected by the Open Meetings Act to <br />become familiar with said Act. The City shall provide for orientation of all newly elected or <br />appointed persons regarding the provisions of said Act, and said orientation shall be provided <br />as soon as possible within the first three months after the date upon which said persons are <br />first elected or appointed <br /> <br />3. It shall further be the practice of the City to provide all persons who are appointed or elected <br />a copy of the Open Meetings Handbook published by the Attorney General of the State of <br />Texas, as well as any information which pertains to the specific requirements of the City <br />Charter regarding open meetings as deemed appropriate by the City Attorney. In addition to <br />providing this information to the persons described, said information shall be available to any <br />member of the public, and all persons who are interested in holding any elected or appointed <br />position which may be subject to the Open Meetings Act shall be encouraged to avail <br />themselves of this information prior to accepting the position or office. <br /> <br />4. The City Attorney is designated the Open Meetings officer for the City. The City Attorney <br />shall advise all persons to whom the Open Meetings Act applies regarding the operation of <br />the Act. The City Attorney also shall receive any complaints regarding violations of the Open <br />Meeting Act.
