IV. Reducing Water Use through Public Education Programs:

The technical potential for water conservation through public education programs is.
estimated to be from 2% of the average annual per capita use (most likely) to 5%
(advanced) according to the Water Conservation Guidebook published in 1993 by the
American Water Works Association. Below is the resulting calculation:

Average annual per capita use for Paris water system - \88.7 gpcd

Potential reduction in water use (Most Likely scenario) = (\88.7 X 2%) = 3.77 gpcd

Potential reduction in water use (Advanced scenario) = (\88.7 X 5%) = 9.44 gpcd

cd

V. Reducing Dry-Year Irrigation Water Use:

The TNRCC and TWDB have estimated that the potential savings for reducing dry-
year irrigation is between 10.5% (Most likely) to 20% (Advanced) of the dry-year water
demand in gpcd. These savings result from xeriscaping (using drought-tolerant, low water
demand landscapes) and decreasing watering of tradition landscaping by using efficient
watering methods. Below is the resulting calculation for Paris:

Paris dry-year demand = 208.\ gpcd

Paris average demand = 188.7 gpcd

Dry-year irrigation use = dry-year demand - average demand = 208.\ - \88.7 = 19.4 gpcd

Potential reduction in water use (Most Likely scenario) = (19.4 X 10.5%) = 2.04 gpcd

Potential reduction in water use (Advanced scenario) = (J 9.4 X 20%) = 3.88 gpcd

Technical Potential Savines Ranee = 2.04 to 3.88 2pcd

8
