<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000-104 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />PARIS, TEXAS, RECOGNIZING THE HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE AND <br />FUTURE IMPORTANCE OF THE SANTE FE FRISCO TRAIN DEPOT <br />TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM PROJECT, THE ADJOINING LAMAR <br />COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM PROJECT, AND THE <br />ACCOMPANYING PARK PROJECT TO COMPLETE THE HERITAGE <br />CENTER; ACKNOWLEDGING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE <br />COMPLETION OF THE PARK PROJECT TO OFFER FUTURE <br />GENERATIONS THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECOGNIZE THE <br />CONTRffiUTIONS OF PAST GENERATIONS WHILE ENJOYING THE <br />BENEFITS OF PARK AND RECREATIONAL FACILITIES UNA V AILABLE <br />ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE LAMAR COUNTY AREA FOR THE MUTUAL <br />BENEFIT OF CHILDREN, YOUTH, ADULTS, AND SENIOR CITIZENS; <br />IMPWRING THE TEXAS PARKS AND WILDLIFE DEPARTMENT TO <br />CONSIDER FAVORABLY THE APPLICATION OF THE CITY OF PARIS <br />FOR A TEXAS RECREATION AND PARKS ACCOUNT (TRPA) <br />PROGRAM GRANT IN FURTHERANCE OF THE HERITAGE PARK <br />PROJECT; AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR, CITY MANAGER, AND ALL <br />APPROPRIATE CITY STAFF TO ACTIVELY AND AGGRESSIVELY <br />PURSUE APPROVAL OF SAID GRANT li'UNDS AS A MATTER OF <br />HIGHEST PRIORITY TO THE CITY OF PARIS; MAKING OTHER <br />FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND <br />DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the history of railroading is the history of the development of the United <br />States, from sea to shining sea on a ribbon of rails; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Santa Fe Frisco Train Depot in the City of Paris has seen young men <br />and women of the City of Paris and Lamar County board trains to leave and return from two <br />world wars and the conflict in Korea; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, some of the same young people returned home at the same depot as fallen <br />heros, having given the last full measure in sacrifice for their home and country; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the aforesaid Santa Fe Frisco Train Depot is being refurbished in part by a <br />1.2 million dollar grant from the TxDot Enhancement Program to ultimately be re-designated as <br />the Sante Fe Frisco Train Depot Transportation Museum as a tribute to the history of railroading <br />in Paris and elsewhere, and to focus the attention of new generations on the sacrifices and ways <br />of the past which ultimately lead to our future; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the refurbished museum structure will also ultimately house the Lamar <br />County Chamber of Commerce to continue to focus attention on the complex; and, <br />
