RESOLUTION NO. 2000-111 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, APPROVING THE ROOF REPLACEMENT ON THE COLISEUM BUILDING LOCATED ON THE FAIR GROUND PROPERTY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PARIS EXPENDITURE OF $5,000.00 TOWARD THE TOTAL COST OF ROOF REPLACEMENT; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISION RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Red River Valley Fair Association, Inc. has contacted the City of Paris seeking assistance in the replacement of the roof on the Coliseum building on the fairgrounds; and, WHEREAS, the Coliseum was built in 1920 and has a historical site marker; and, WHEREAS, in 1987, the City of Paris, Lamar County Commissioners Court, Chamber of Commerce, Paris Lions Club, Red River Valley Fair Association, and local donors went together and re-built the exterior walls and storage rooms and put new shingles on the Coliseum; and, WHEREAS, the west end of the Coliseum roof is currently in need of replacing the interior ceiling before applying a new roof for the entire building; and WHEREAS, the Red River Valley Fair Association, Inc. has already received $5,000.00 from the Lamar County Visitors & Convention Council and is asking the City of Paris to assist with a $5,000.00 grant; and, WHEREAS, the City of Paris wishes to continue to encourage the Red River Valley Fair Association, Inc. to promote activities which are enjoyed by the citizens of Paris and Lamar County and to improve and maintain the fairground property; and, WHEREAS, the City Council further finds and determines that the proper maintenance and repair of the Coliseum roof is beyond the current obligations of the Fair Association and is in the best interests of the citizens of the City of Paris, and the City Council is, therefore, agreeable to assist with the replacement of the Coliseum roof by approving the allocation of $5,000.00 to the Red River Valley Fair Association, Inc. for this improvement project; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS: Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all things approved.
