<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000-012 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />PARIS, TEXAS, STATING ITS SUPPORT DIRECTED TO ENCOURAGE <br />LEGISLATION TO RECLASSIFY THE CHRISTUS ST. JOSEPH'S <br />HEALTH SYSTEM AND MCCUISTION REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER <br />INTO THE DALLAS METROPOLITAN STATISTICAL AREA FOR <br />PURPOSES OF RECEIVING PROVIDER REIMBURSEMENT UNDER THE <br />MEDICARE PROGRAM UNDER TITLE XVIII OF THE SOCIAL <br />SECURITY ACT (42 U.S.c. 1395 et seq.); MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND <br />PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING FOR AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, CHRISTUS St. Joseph's Health System and McCuistion Regional Medical <br />Center provide critical healthcare services to Northeast Texas and Southeast Oklahoma serving a <br />population of over 250,000; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these hospitals combine to be the largest employer in Lamar County, also <br />supporting over 100 physicians and their staffs and countless other indirect medical service <br />providers; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these facilities are required to compete with the medical community of the <br />Dallas Metropolitan Statistical Area for qualified and skilled personnel to provide the necessary <br />medical services demanded by the citizenry of this area; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the general population would suffer if medical services were eliminated or <br />reduced by a loss a Medicare reimbursement to the 64% of our eligible aging population unable to <br />seek services in the Dallas Metropolitan Statistical Area; and. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the overall quality oflife in this area would be severely and adversely affected <br />by the loss of reimbursement under the Medicare program; NOW THEREFORE, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all things <br />approved. <br /> <br />Section 2. That City Council of the City of Paris requests federal legislative relief to <br />geographically reclassify Lamar County, Texas, into the Dallas Metropolitan Statistical Area for <br />purposes of receiving provider reimbursement under the Medicare program under Title XVIII of the <br />Social Security Act (42 U.S,C.1395 et seq.). <br />
