herd No. 14 <br />TO: Mayor & City Council <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Carla Easton, City Engineer <br />SUBJECT. 2017 STREET BOND FUND — CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AWARD <br />FOR EcnERRY, E 3RD, NW 7""' & Si 7TH STREET IMPROVEMENTS <br />DATE: October 13, 2017 <br />BACKGROUND: In May of this year, voters authorized the sale of $9.5 Million in bonds to <br />improve city streets. The first project to be completed with the 201.7 Street Bond Fund includes <br />the rehabilitation of' E Cherry Street from NE 2011 <br />to NE 25"', E 3" Street from Sherman to <br />Provine, NW 7"' Street from Graharn to Center, and SW 7"' from Washington to Grand. The <br />proposed improvements consist of milling and overlay of the existing asphalt surface and <br />replacement of broken or rnissing curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. The contract plans and <br />specifications were prepared in-house by the Engineering Departirielit. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: On October 5, 2017, five bids were received for the project and Richard <br />Drake Construction submitted the low bid in the amount of $880,328.44. The bids were <br />reviewed and references checked in accordance with the contract docurrients, and Staff <br />recommends award of the contract to Richard Drake Construction. The contract documents <br />require this project to be completed within 90 calendar days after issuance of the notice to <br />proceed. Construction is anticipated to begin in November.
