MINUTES
AIRPORT ADVISORY BOARD
TUSADAY, APRIL 30, 1985
COX FIELD TERMINAL
PARIS, TEXAS
The meeting was called to order by Mr. Burress and the minutes of the previous
meeting were approved as read. Members present were Greta Greb, Joe Burress,
Eric Clifford. Also present was Jim Collier, Airport Manager and Mr. Roger
Sadler, F.B.O.
Mr. Collier read the items, listed in order of priorty by City Council.
Although last on the list of priorities, the advisory committee was concerned
about training for firemen for the airport. Mr. Sadler informed them the
school at Lubbock, Texas would not be held until later this year. The Advisory
Board recommended Mr. Sadler send employees to the Lubbock Fire Training
Seminar as soon as possible.
The Advisory Board also requested copies of lease agreement for Saber
Aviation in order to determine specific responsibilities of City and of Saber
Aviation in regard to Cox Field. The Board also felt it was necessary to
clarify a misconception that the City of Paris, "was no longer in the Airport
business ", which was stated in a recent news article.
The Board recommends all runways and taxiways be sprayed as soon as possible.
Maintenance required for safety as well as preventative replacement cost
should always be a priority.
This lead to another recommendation by the Board for black top on road entering
Hangar area. Mr. Sadler reported that it was not only a hazard to aircraft,
due to loose rock and gravel being worled into grass areas, then piled up by
the moving airlines and hurled into tiedown and open hangar areas, but there
was also the possibility of the City being held liable for any damages.
It was reported that the survey concerning commuter operations out of Cox Field
was not met with much enthusiasm by Eagle Airlines personnel. Mr. Burress, a
member of the Air Service Committee of the Chamber of Commerce, who developed
this aurvey, has agreed to contact the owner of Eagle Airlines to hopefully
solicit more cooperation. In the meantime Mr. Sadler, F.B.O. Operator, has
agreed to hand out the survey cards to deplaning passengers when possible.
Mr. Jarco, who gave F.A.A. Seminar to local pilots, seemed to be disappointed
in the low turnout. It was pointed out, if a definite date could be established
ahead of time more publicity could be generated toward a better turnout. The
seminar was excellent and well received by those who did attend.
OLD BUSINESS:
Report on Airport Promotion Plan (tabled).
