Item No, 16
TO. Mayor & City Council
FROM: John Godwin, City Manager
SK
A.
0 T ?  1111 11 1 1, NiF1112MM1. :: 11 r11
DATE: May 2, 2018
BACKGROUND: The city adopted a Parks, Recreation, & Open Space Master Plan in late 2013
for the planning period 2013-23, That plan was prepared by MHS Planning & Design, using a
grant to pay the cost of preparation. We have rnade some progress on the plan, though only
minimal funding was available until last summer's successful bond election.. We are due for a
five-year update, and a draft updated plan has been assembled by the city's parks work group
towards that purpose.
STATUS OF ISSUE: The council received public input on the draft revisions on April 9, and
.have sought feedback through other sources as well. The attached revised Sections 7 and 8
include all changes since the 2013 plan marked in blue for easy reference. We will receive
additional input at the May 14 council meeting, prior to adoption of the new plan. Upon
adoption, the plan will be submitted to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department in support of a
parks development grant we will submit later this year.
RECOMMENDA'I"'.ION: Approve attached revised plan, with any additional changes agreed to.
