HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF PARIS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MEETING <br />100 GEORGE WRIGHT HOMES <br />MINUTES OF May 15, 201 S <br />Present at the Meeting: <br />Gary Savage — Chairman of the Board of Commissioners <br />TK Haynes — Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners <br />Dewayne Dangerfield — Commissioner of the Board of Comn <br />Brenda Cherry - Commissioner of the Board of Commissione <br />Sally Ruthart — Executive Director <br />Patricia Pridemore - PHA Operations Manager <br />1. Meeting Called to order at 12:38 pm. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 by Chain -'an of the <br />Board of Commissioners, Gary Savage. <br />2. Having four Board Members present, a quorum, Mr. Savage thanked and <br />everyone to the meeting. <br />3. Citizens' Forum Opened and closed with no one present to speak. <br />4. Minutes from the April 17, 2018 Meeting <br />Minutes were approved with a motion made by Mr. T. K. Haynes and secon ed by Mr. <br />Dewayne Dangerfield. Passed 4-0. <br />5. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Skipper Steeley's Request for George Wright Homes to be <br />renamed - discussion. Mr. Steeley did not attend the meeting after the notice via email <br />was sent to him on Thursday, May 10, 2018. The Board discussed the matter, After <br />discussion, the Board of Commissioners concluded that if Mr. Steeley wants the name <br />changed that he can pay the expenses that the Housing Authority would inc and do the <br />leg work (go through HUD and the City) to get it changed. Also, that the PH k go <br />forward with Ark -Tex request to change the addresses at George Wright Hor les to 911 <br />addresses. As far as the PHA is concerned this item is put to rest. <br />b. NEW BUSINESS: <br />A. Occupancy Report — Waiting lists for PH and Section 8, Demographic Reports, and <br />Vacancy Reports were all presented to the Board. A discussion was held regarding the <br />PHA having to get all the forms interpreted into Spanish because the Hispanic population <br />is growing in Paris. The Board also discussed maybe sending an employee to school to <br />learn to speak Spanish. The PHA currently has available an interpreter at PJC. that will <br />interpret if needed. Mr. Savage suggested that in the future hiring of employees that this <br />might need to be a requirement. Mr. Haynes suggested sending a current employee to <br />school to learn the language. Ms. Cherry stated that if the PHA did send anemployee to <br />school that the employee would need to sign a contract with the PHA stating that they <br />will stay at the PHA for a certain number of years after the PHA pays for the classes. <br />
