Item No. 9 'TO: City Council John Godwin, City Manager FRW: Bob Flundley, Chief of Police SUBJECT: ABI'PA GRAN'r EATENSION FOR FY 2018-2019 DATE: May 28,2018 BACKGROUND: 'The City of Paris began the Northeast "Fexas Auto Theft Task: Force, with the assistance of Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority, in September of 1994. Since that time, for 24 consecutive years, the City of Paris has been approved in continuing with the Task Force tinder this grant. There are two Paris police detectives assigned to the Task Force paid for by this grant. 'These officers are allowed to investigate auto thefts and auto burglaries in a number of counties in the Northeast Texas area. Many times, criminals operate beyond Jurisdictional lines. STATUS OF ISSUE: The ABTPA has decided to continue the grant at last year's numbers without submitting a grant application. The total amount of the grant for 2018/2019 is $149,474.00 including a cash match of $41,667.00 from the city. Council has to approve the extension of the grant and authorize the manager to complete certain documents. 'Fhe ABTPA requires a resolution from the governing body for the grant continuation. BUDGET: The grant application will require a $41,667.00 cash match in the 2018-2019 police department budget. RECOMMENDATION. Motion to approve a resolution authorizing the extension of the grant to the Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority for continuation of the Northeast Texas Auto Theft 'Task Force and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents.
