Item No. 9 <br />'TO: City Council <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FRW: Bob Flundley, Chief of Police <br />SUBJECT: ABI'PA GRAN'r EATENSION FOR FY 2018-2019 <br />DATE: May 28,2018 <br />BACKGROUND: 'The City of Paris began the Northeast "Fexas Auto Theft Task: Force, with the <br />assistance of Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority, in September of 1994. Since that <br />time, for 24 consecutive years, the City of Paris has been approved in continuing with the Task <br />Force tinder this grant. There are two Paris police detectives assigned to the Task Force paid for <br />by this grant. 'These officers are allowed to investigate auto thefts and auto burglaries in a <br />number of counties in the Northeast Texas area. Many times, criminals operate beyond <br />Jurisdictional lines. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: The ABTPA has decided to continue the grant at last year's numbers <br />without submitting a grant application. The total amount of the grant for 2018/2019 is <br />$149,474.00 including a cash match of $41,667.00 from the city. Council has to approve the <br />extension of the grant and authorize the manager to complete certain documents. 'Fhe ABTPA <br />requires a resolution from the governing body for the grant continuation. <br />BUDGET: The grant application will require a $41,667.00 cash match in the 2018-2019 police <br />department budget. <br />RECOMMENDATION. Motion to approve a resolution authorizing the extension of the grant <br />to the Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority for continuation of the Northeast <br />Texas Auto Theft 'Task Force and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary <br />documents. <br />
