Itern No. 12 <br />'TO: Mayor &City Council <br />.John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Carla Easton, City Engineer <br />SUBJECT: 2017 STREET BOND FUND — CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AWARD <br />FOR S COLLEGIATE, 33"') SE, & GRAHAM STREET IMPROVEMENTS <br />DATE: June 4, 2018 <br />BACKGROLJND: In May 2017, voters authorized the sale of$9.5 Million in bonds to improve <br />city streets. 'The 2017 Street Program includes the resurfacing of S Collegiate from 1,airiar to <br />Clarksville, 33rd SE Street from Larnar to Clarksville, and Graham Street from 3,`, NW to the <br />Railroad. The proposed improvements consist of milling and overlay of the existing asphalt <br />surface and replacement of broken or missing curbs,, gutters, and sidewalks. An additive <br />alternate bid was included for new sidewalk along 33`1 SE. The contract plans and specifications <br />were prepared in-house by the Engineering; Department. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: On May 17, 2017, six bids were received for the prQject. Richard Drake <br />Construction submitted the low bid in the arnount of $844,302.04 base bid, and $195,262.00 for <br />the additive alternate, The bids were reviewed in accordance with the contract documents, and <br />Staff`frecon-imends award of a contract to Richard Drake Construction for the base bid only. The <br />contract documents require this proJect to be completed within 90 calendar days after issuance of' <br />the notice to proceed. Construction is anticipated to begin in July 2018.
