WHEREAS, the Texas Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority <br />("ABTPA") provides funding for automobile theft prevention grants; and <br />WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Texas Devised Civil Statutes Article <br />443 <br />(37) and Texas Administrative Code Title 43, Part 3, Chanter 57, entities are eligible to <br />receive grants from the Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority to provide <br />financial support to law enforcement agencies for automobile theft enforcement teams and <br />to combat automobile burglary in the jurisdiction, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Paris began the Northeast. Texas Auto Theft Task Force, with <br />the assistance of Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority, in September of 1994, and <br />since that time, for 2.4 consecutive years, the City of Paris has been approved to continue <br />the Task. Force under this grant, and <br />WHEREAS, there are two Paris police detectives assigned to the Task Force paid for <br />by this grant who are allowed to investigate auto thefts and auto burglaries in a number of <br />counties in the Northeast 'Texas area so as to work eases on criminals who operate beyond <br />jurisdictional lines, and <br />WHEREAS, the ABTPA adopted rules this year that allow for a grant extension in <br />place of a formal grant application process; and <br />City y of Paris desires to extend the Automobile <br />REAS;, the Cit Council of the Cit <br />Burglary and Theft Prevention Grant entitled "Northeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force" <br />project as described in the City of Paris Grant Application for Fiscal year 2018 attached. <br />hereto as Exhibit "A" beginning September 1, 2018.and ending August 31, 2'011.9, in the <br />amount of $149,474.00 including a cash match from the City totaling $4:1,667.00 in the <br />2018-2819' Paris Police Department Budget, and to continue the existing Auto Theft Task. <br />Force and to hereby authorize the City Manager to execute the necessary documents, and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris, Texas has agreed that in the event of <br />loss or misuse of the grant funds, the City of Paris, Texas assures that the grant funds will <br />be returned in full to the Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority, <br />
