• Shutters may be installed if they are <br />in keeping with the style of the house <br />and the period of construction. <br />Shutters need to be correctly <br />proportioned to the width and height <br />of the window and must be installed <br />with hinges rather than nailed to the <br />wall. <br />• Skylights can add light to interior <br />spaces andmay make attic spaces <br />more useable. If flat in profile and <br />positioned away from public view, <br />skylights can be installed in, older <br />houses. Bubble -dome skylights are <br />not appropriate for Historic Districts. <br />• Storm/screen doors and windows, can <br />be installed without hiding the historic <br />door and surrounding features. Metal <br />framed doors and window screens <br />are acceptable if - selected with a <br />white factory finish or painted the <br />color of the door and window trim. <br />Wood storm/screen doors and <br />windows designed for the style of the <br />house can be purchased or custom <br />made at most lumber yards. <br />• Site garages away from the primary <br />view and set them behind the front <br />wall of the house.
