SIMPLE STREET FURNITURE THAT DOES NOT BLOCK <br />PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC IS APPROPRIATE <br />PLACE ROOFTOP MECHANICAL <br />EQUIPMENT OUT OF LINE OF SIGHT. <br />APPROPRIATE STREET FURNISHINGS FOR <br />HISTORIC DISTRICTS <br />Landscaping that requires continual <br />moisture, i.e. shrubs, trees, plants, <br />within ten feet of a historic building <br />shouild be avoided. <br />Remove climbing vines and ivy from <br />historic buildings and walls as they <br />damage the building fabric. <br />All plants, and vegetation growing in, <br />wall and foundation crevices needs <br />to be removed without damage to <br />the historic fabric., <br />Trees over 6 inches in diameter <br />must not be removed without <br />approval. <br />All landscaping and planters must <br />not block or obstruct the normal flow <br />of pedestrian or vehicular traffic. <br />Equipment Screen ing/Uti I ity Location <br />• Mechanical equipment shall not be <br />wiithiin line of sight. <br />• Place rooftop mechanical equipment <br />out of pedestrian sight lines. <br />• Place ground mounted mechanical <br />equipment behind the line of the <br />front fagade and screen with planted <br />material. <br />Sidewalk Displays, Furnishings, and <br />Public Amenities <br />• All street furniture and public <br />amenities, i.e. benches, trash cans, <br />drinking fountains and lighting, need <br />to be approved by the Historic <br />Preservation Commission. <br />• Design of public amenities should be <br />simple and clean and shall not <br />replicate a period that predates <br />1920. <br />• Temporary signs shall, not be <br />attached to historic buildings <br />surfaces. <br />• Furnishings must not block or <br />obstruct the normal flow of <br />pedestrian traffic. <br />• New holes must not be created in <br />historic building fabric or hardscape. <br />Design Standards for the City of Paris, Texas 29 <br />
