Item No. 8 <br />memorandum <br />TO: Mayor & Council <br />FROM: John Godwin, City Manager <br />SUBJECT: PUMP TRACK PROJECT <br />DATE: June 29, 2018 <br />BACKGROUND: As I previously reported to the council by email, a pump track is one of the <br />projects our parks plan update called for to be submitted for a Texas Parks & Wildlife outdoor <br />recreation grant by October 1. Since that time, local interest and support has grown significantly, <br />and we have partnerships with the VCC, Rotary Club, and a number of local businesses and <br />individuals. This will allow us to construct a larger facility and draw many more users, including <br />those from outside the city. Additional private funding and partners will also give us more points <br />towards award of the state grant. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: We have met with a designer, who has begun preliminary layout and cost <br />estimating, information that will be necessary for our submission to TPWD. We are also <br />working with Hayter Engineering, which has extensive experience working with TPWD grant <br />processes, applications, and staff. The proposed site is at the Sports Complex, but located near <br />Collegiate Road, immediately west of the existing large pavilion, thereby giving it great <br />visibility, tying it to the Trail de Paris and the Love Center, and utilizing existing infrastructure. <br />BUDGET: Project cost will be approximately $500,000; the city's share will be $100,000, paid <br />from 2017 parks bond proceeds. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Presentation only; a resolution will need to be passed prior to formal <br />submission of the grant application to Texas Parks and Wildlife. <br />
