ORDINANCE NO. 2019-019 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, <br />AMENDING THE CITY OF PARIS CODE OF ORDINANCES BY REVISING <br />CHAPTER 26, ARTICLE I, SECTION 26-1 "COMPOSITION OF <br />DEPARTMENT" TO ADD AN ADDITIONAL SERGEANT POSITION AND <br />REDUCE ONE POLICE OFFICER POSITION; PROVIDING A REPEALER <br />CLAUSE, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND DECLARING <br />AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 26, Article I, Section 26-1, "Composition of Department," of the <br />Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Texas, provides for the classification of the <br />composition of the Paris Police Department, ("the Department"); and <br />WHEREAS, changes within the Department since said Section 26-1 was last <br />amended necessitate further amendments to enhance operations of the Department; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department has concluded that it is necessary to add a sergeant <br />position to the narcotics unit of the criminal Investigation Division, thus necessitating the <br />creation of on sergeant position and the elimination of one patrol officer position; and <br />WHEREAS, the number of sergeants in the Department would change from five (5) <br />to (6) and the number of patrol officers would change from forty-one (41) to forty (40); <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Council finds that it is in the best interests of the citizens of Paris, Texas <br />to make the recommended changes to Section 26-1; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PARIS, TEXAS: <br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby <br />in all things approved. <br />Section 2. That Chapter 26, Article I, Section 26-1, "Composition of department" <br />of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Texas, be, and the same is hereby, amended to <br />read in its entirety as follows: <br />"Sec. 26-1. - Composition of department. <br />"The police department of the City of Paris shall be composed of the Chief of police <br />and fifty-six (56) members classified as follows: <br />
