RESOLUTION NO. 93-081 WHEREAS, since 1965, the East Texas Gulf Highway Association has worked with the Texas Department of Transportation towards building a four lane highway from the Texas-Oklahoma border to the Gulf Coast of Texas, and; WHEREAS, th i s route known as the Green Carpet Route, begins on US 271 at the Texas-Oklahoma border, and continues through Paris, Mt. Pleasant, Pittsburg, Gilmer and Gladewater; then on SH 135 to Kilgore; then on US 259 to Henderson and Nacogdoches; then on US 59 to Lufkin and Houston, and; WHEREAS, the Green Carpet Route has become a major north-south artery for business travelers and tourists, and; WHEREAS, the Green Carpet Route was designated as a part of the Texas Highway Trunk System in November, 1989, and; WHEREAS, the official designation of the Green Carpet Route would promote its use by the traveling public, thus enhancing the economy of the cities along the route; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, that the City of Paris does hereby officially designate US 271 through Paris, Texas, the Green Carpet Route; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Paris pledges to work with the Texas Department of Transportation in erect ing appropr iate s ignage along the route as a way to promote its use by motorists.
