Marvin Gorley introduced the project architect Ronnie Rucker, who has assisted on the
rehabilitation project design. Mr. Rucker is available to answer any questions.
Mr. Gorley began with the proposed project of expansion of 255 lsi SW, South Main Iron
mechanic repair shop. The project includes expansion for a wash bay on the west (SW
1ST) and furthest north side of the original building where currently there is a repair shop.
On the east side facing S. Main, the plan is to expand the area with wood approximately
10 to 15 feet using wood siding and framing. This addition will differentiate itself from
the original structure and can be removed in the fixture without harming any historic
materials. The custom doors will be reused.
The second phase involves the three large openings on South Main St. and will included
removal of the haddock blocks and leaving the original openings intact. An interior will
be built inside the open area. Mr. Gorley provided historic photos for the commissioners
documenting the openings were original, and the building housed a drive through gas
station in its early phases.
The owner is requesting removal of the circa 1980 roof, and reinstalling the original roof
line to expose the windows between the properties. In addition to the roof, the owners
would like to create an atrium to allow lighting inside.
Chairman Dux opened the floor for discussion, hearing no questions, he reviewed the
project with the commissioners and made a motion to approve the project as presented.
