Item No. 9 <br />TO: Mayor & City Council <br />John Godwin, City Manager <br />FROM: Carla Easton, PE, City Engineer <br />SUBJECT: 2019 TxDOT SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL APPLICATION — PINE MILL <br />ROAD SIDEWALKS <br />DATE: August 2, 2019 <br />BACKGROUND: TxDOT has issued a call for projects for the 2019 Transportation Alternatives <br />Set -Aside (TA) and Safe Routes To School (SRTS) grant programs, which provide funding for <br />projects that enhance pedestrian safety, access, or mobility while connecting important community <br />destinations such as schools, places of employment, and recreational areas. <br />In April of this year the city submitted a preliminary grant application under the SRTS program to <br />construct concrete sidewalks along Pine Mill Road, connecting 3 residential neighborhoods to <br />Aikin Elementary School. The proposed project cost is $350,000, and if awarded, the SRTS grant <br />will cover 100%. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: The preliminary application was accepted by TxDOT, and it is now time to <br />submit a detailed application for the proposed project. A resolution of support is required for the <br />application. <br />BUDGET: NA <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution of support for the 2019 SRTS grant application. <br />
