Proposed Project Activities (See Instructions on pages 13a and 13b.) <br /> <br />Hire a P.A.L. coordinator, who would be a certified peace officer, to <br />accomplish the following tasks: <br /> <br />1.. Organize existing youth activities and community volunteers to <br />more effectively work with the existing P.A.L. membership of <br />260 fourteen to eighteen year-old youths. Activities will include <br />athletic pct1vities such as, karate, weightlifting, boxing, <br />basketball~ and volleyball. <br /> <br />2. Expand the existing program by an additional 100 youths during the <br />. grant year. <br /> <br />3. Add an offenders program of supervised evening activities for juveniles <br />referred by the Lamar County Juvenile Probation Department. An estimated <br />25 youths would be involved in this aspect of the program during the <br />grant year. <br /> <br />4. Proposed .Evaluation DesIgn (See InstruCtions on pages 13a and 13b.) <br /> <br />The program's success will be measured by determining whether or not there has <br />been a reduction in involvement in gang activity in Paris. Other measures will <br />include increased school attendance by juveniles participating in the program, <br />and improved relationships between young people and law enforcement officers, <br />and improved attitudes on the part of young people participating in the program <br />by.interviewing parents. <br />
