<br />EXHIBIT A <br /> <br />Description of Projects to be Refinanced by the <br />Issuance of the Bexar County Health Facilities <br />Development CorpOration Incarnate Word <br />Health Services Revenue Refundinq Bonds Series 1993 <br /> <br />With reqard to Santa Rosa: <br /> <br />The Project consists of two parts, The first and major part was the <br />construction of Saint Rose Catholic Hospital, a complex to be located adjacent <br />to the Medical Center's existing Villa Rosa Hospital. The second part of the <br />project consisted of the renovation of certain spaces at the Downtown Facilities <br />and at Villa Rosa Hospital. <br /> <br />The new construction of Saint Rose Catholic Hospital provided 104 <br />medical/surgical beds, 50 rehabilitation medicine beds, 20 pediatric beds and <br />26 obstetric and ICU/CCU beds, Upon completion of the Project, 150 beds were <br />. relocated from the Medical Center's Downtown Facilities to Saint Rose Catholic <br />Hospital. The total net increase in the Medical Center licensed beds was 20 <br />rehabilitation beds, for a total licensed capacity of 1,118 beds, Upon the <br />relocation of the 150 beds to Saint Rose Catholic Hospital, Villa Rosa Hospital <br />became primarily a psychiatric care facility and the Villa Rosa Hospital laboratory <br />was converted as part of the total Project to provide a model apartment for <br />rehabilitation patients, additional physician office space and several classrooms <br />and offices. <br /> <br />With reqard to SI. Joseph: <br /> <br />Proceeds of outstanding bonds, together with funds of the Hospital, <br />were used to finance the acquisition and/or construction of various assets, as <br />set forth below (the 'Project'): (i) construction of an additional floor for <br />administrative offices, a relocated and expanded pharmacy, physical therapy <br />area and an outpatient oncology area; (ii) construction of an additional floor for <br />a new 14 bed oncology unit; a 18 bed rehabilitation unit and 7 relocated <br />medical-surgical beds; (iii) renovation of the existing ICU and expansion of the <br />unit from 12 to 15 beds; (iv) the addition of twenty medical-surgical beds and <br />the construction of an addition for ambulatory care patients and (v) a new seven <br />story elevator tower. The Project required additional movable medical <br />equipment for physical therapy and major non-medical equipment including <br />elevators and an energy management system. <br /> <br />With reqard to St. Anthonv: <br /> <br />The construction of a new 70-bed patient care tower so as to provide for the <br />addition of 40 new inpatient medical/surgical beds and the conversion of 30 existing <br />inpatient semi-private medical/surgical beds to private room beds, plus the relocation <br />of four existing medical/surgical beds, <br /> <br />The construction of new outpatient service facilities, including a new <br />main entry, admissions and registration area, patient screening and preparation <br /> <br />INC483:52000:ST -JOS:AES _ cc _p, SEX <br />12J07192:17 <br /> <br />A-1 <br />
