<br />PART IV - PROGRAM NARRATIVE - CONTINUED <br /> <br />Varner is also the coordinator for the Lamar County Crime Stoppers <br />program and has been certified as a Crime Prevention Practitioner, <br />State Home Owners Insurance Inspector and a local Crime Stoppers <br />program coordinator. <br /> <br />Due to public requests and demands the Paris Police Department has <br />also assigned Officer Varner as Public Information Officer, Victim's <br />Compensation Act Liaison, Operation Lifesaver Coordinator, Department <br />Warrant Officer and he has recently been certified as a Drug Awareness <br />Resistance Education Instructor. <br /> <br />Therefore, Officer Varner has the desire and the knowledge to operate <br />an efficient and productive Crime Prevention Unit. <br /> <br />6. ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO DATE: <br /> <br />Since the Paris Police Department created the Crime Prevention Unit <br />in February,1990, on a part time basis to present date, one hundred <br />and one (101) programs have been given to over seven thousand three <br />hundred forty-eight (7348) people. From 1989 to 1990, the Part I <br />Class Offenses dropped in the City of Paris by 10.1%. This infor- <br />mation shows, without a doubt, that the citizens of Paris and Lamar <br />County are hungry to learn more about how to protect themselves and <br />their property. <br /> <br />The Crime Prevention Unit at the Paris Police Department is vital to <br />the community. With the help of this grant, Paris will be a better <br />and safer place to live. <br />
