Regular Council Meeting <br />February 24, 2020 <br />Page 4 <br />DISTRICTS 1, 3, AND 6 FOR THE MAY 2, 2020 GENERAL ELECTION BE <br />ELECTED TO OFFICE; DETERMINING THAT NO GENERAL ELECTION BE <br />HELD IN DISTRICTS 1, 3, AND 6; DIRECTING THAT A COPY OF THIS <br />ORDINANCE BE POSTED AT APPROPRIATE POLLING PLACES; DIRECTING <br />THAT A CERTIFICATE OF ELECTION BE ISSUED TO THE UNOPPOSED <br />CANDIDATES; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO <br />THE SUBJECT; PROVIDING A REPEALER CLAUSE, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, <br />A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />City Clerk Janice Ellis said Renae Stone, Benny Plata and Clayton Pilgrim were <br />uncontested, and asked the City Council to declare the candidates unopposed and elected to <br />office. <br />A Motion to approve this item was made by Mayor Clifford and seconded by Council <br />Member Portugal. Motion carried, 4 ayes — 0 nays. <br />14. Receive and discuss report from Chief Hundley about creation of a safe zone at local <br />hotels in the City of Paris, Texas. <br />Chief Hundley presented his report about activities at local hotels. He said with the <br />increased presence of patrol on all of the hotel lots, along with cooperation by the businesses <br />involved it seemed to keep the calls for service lower and make the areas safer. Chief Hundley <br />suggested they continue with patrol presence and monitor the calls. <br />It was a consensus of City Council for Chief Hundley to report on this subject again in <br />June. <br />15. Convene into Executive Session pursuant to Section 551.074 of the Texas Government <br />Code, to deliberate the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, <br />discipline, or dismissal of a public officer or employee as follows: review proposed city <br />manager's contract. <br />Mayor Clifford convened City Council into executive session at 5:50 p.m. <br />16. Reconvene into Open Session and possibly take action on those matters discussed in <br />Executive Session. <br />Mayor Clifford reconvened City Council into open session at 6:38 p.m. and said they <br />discussed the proposed contract with the new city manager. <br />17. Consider and approve future events for City Council and/or City Staff pursuant to <br />Resolution No. 2004-081. <br />Mayor Clifford said he wanted a future item about doing away with collection of the tax <br />for the PEG. <br />
