Item No. 27 TO: Mayor & City Council FROM: Gene Anderson, Interim City Manager & Finance Director SUBJECT: PUBLIC, EDUCATIONAL, & GOVERNMENTAL ACCESS FEE DATE: April 6, 2020 BACKGROUND: At its March 9, 2020 meeting, the City Council gave direction to take the necessary steps to stop collecting the PEG access fee and to determine how to return the money previously collected to the citizens of Paris. STATUS OF ISSUE: I attempted to contact the two Suddenlink officials that had previously assisted me with PEG issues. Neither have responded to my phone messages or emails. I next visited the local Suddenlink office and spoke with the office manager. She said she could not help me but would contact their legal department and have them contact me. After waiting two weeks and hearing nothing from Suddenlink, I went back to the local office only to find it closed including their drive through window. An internet search for corporate contact information gave me several numbers to try, but they all led to automated customer service numbers with no option to talk to someone about this issue. BUDGET: N/A RECOMMENDATION: The staff will continue to try and make contact with Suddenlink officials.
