RESOLUTION NO. 2020-018
<br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS,
<br />ACKNOWLEDGING THE RESULTS OF PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION
<br />DECLARING CANDIDATES AS ELECTED TO OFFICE FOR COUNCIL
<br />DISTRICTS 1, 3, AND 6 AS A RESULT OF HAVING BEEN UNOPPOSED FOR
<br />ELECTION TO OFFICE; DECLARING THE TERMS OF OFFICE FOR THE
<br />AFORESAID CANDIDATES; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS
<br />RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
<br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris, Texas, did heretofore, on the 27th
<br />day of January, 2020, by Resolution No. 2020-002, order the regular municipal election for
<br />the City of Paris to be held on the 2nd day of May, 2020, by the qualified voters in Districts
<br />1, 3, and 6 of the City of Paris, for the purpose of electing City Council Members from said
<br />Districts; and,
<br />WHEREAS, on February 19, 2020, the City Clerk, being the authority responsible for
<br />having the official ballot prepared, certified, in writing, that the candidates for election as
<br />City Council Members for Districts 1, 3, and 6 were unopposed for election to office with no
<br />write-in candidates being declared and that there were no propositions to appear on the
<br />ballot; and,
<br />WHEREAS, on February 24, 2020, the City Council of the City of Paris, Texas, by
<br />Ordinance No. 2020-008 did, pursuant to the authority granted in the Texas Election Code
<br />Section 2.053, deem it appropriate that the candidates for election as City Council Members
<br />for Districts 1, 3, and 6 be declared elected to office and that no election should be held in
<br />those Districts; and,
<br />WHEREAS, on March 26, 2020, by resolution number 2020-012, the City council
<br />postponed the election for District 2 from May 2, 2020 to November 3, 2020, due to the
<br />global COVID-19 pandemic; and
<br />WHEREAS, as a consequence of said Ordinance No. 2020-008, the candidate for
<br />District 1, the same being Renae Stone; the candidate for District 3, the same being Benny
<br />Plata; and the candidate for District 6, the same being Clayton Pilgrim; were declared
<br />elected to office; and,
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
<br />PARIS, TEXAS:
<br />Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby
<br />in all things approved.
<br />Section 2. That the City Council hereby declares the candidate for District 1, the
<br />same being Renae Stone; the candidate for District 3, the same being Benny Plata; and the
