RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS; APPOINTING TO FILL THE CITY COUNCIL VACANCY IN DISTRICT 3 AND TO SERVE AS COUNCIL PERSON FOR DISTRICT 3 UNTIL COUNCIL MEMBERS ARE SEATED AFTER THE MAY, 2022 ELECTION; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on June 2, 2020 Council Member Benny Plata resigned from his Council Seat in District 3; and WHEREAS, Mr. Plata's term was due to expire in May of 2022; and WHEREAS, there now exists a vacancy on the membership of the City Council of the City of Paris in District No. 3; and, WHERAS, the Home Rule Charter of the City of Paris, Texas provides, in Section 20 thereof, that a vacancy in the Council shall be filled by a majority vote of the remaining members of the Council by the selection of a person possessing the qualifications required by said Charter and by state law; and WHEREAS, two candidates applied for the appointment to the Council Seat for District 3; and WHEREAS, after considering the qualifications and interviews of the candidates, the City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the people of District 3 and of the city as a whole to appoint ................................ .....W_, to serve out the District 3 seat's unexpired term ending in May of 2022; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, THAT: Section 1. The findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all things approved. Section 2. That mm be, and he is hereby, appointed as Council Member for District 3, and as such is a member of the City Council of the City of Paris to serve until Council Members are seated after the election in May of 2022. Section 3. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon passage.
