REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
WEDNESDAY., JuIv 8.2020
Chris Dux -Chairman
Matt Co le Vice Chair
Glee Emmite
Linda Vandiver
Cheri Bedford -HPO
Linda Knox,,Council Liaison
4:00 P.M.
Call meeting to order at 4:09 p.m.
Absent:
Laura Caffe
Randy Hider Secretary
Minutes of June 10, 2020 were approved by acclamation.
Guests
Gar, and Leslie Flnn
JD Marrs
Maverick Priest
Gary and Leslie Flynn presented a Certificate of Appropriateness Request for 10 N. Plaza.
The property owners explained they planned on simulating the storefront as presented
in the accompanying design rendering from the Texas Main Street Design
Assistance staff. There were a few modifications in which they needed guidance.
The rendering included two identical doors on opposing sides of the proposed
facade. The door to the left will lead to their residence, and the right door entrance
to the business. Doors will be made of wood framing a single pane of glass in the
middle of the windows. The storefront design includes a wooden bulkhead with 8
windows, 5 windows above the bulkhead, and three aligning windows above
them. The configuration is designed for the owners to be able to utilize outdoor
space. The owners intend to have outside service window in the center top that
lifts to expose the interior. This service window will be aligned with the 2, 3, and
4t' panes below. The panes on the right and left of the display windows will be
frosted to provide privacy and consistency. The property owners have requested
to replace the existing windows above the canopy with new windows that are
metal clad wooden windows. These windows configuration will match the style,
shape and scale of the existing windows. The property owner provided
photographs of the current conditions of the windows and believes they are not in
a condition for repair or energy efficiency.
The commission requested the building owners seek a professional assistance in
the restoration of the historic windows before removing and replacing the
windows. A professional window restoration contact will be given to the property
owner.
A motion was made by Commissioner Emmite to approve the Certificate of
Appropriateness with the condition the property owners research how to utilize
the single pane of glass as a serving door and consult with a window restoration
specialist about restoration of the windows for preservation and energy efficiency.
