"HIGH -PILED COMBUSTIBLE STORAGE. Storage of combustible <br />materials in closely packed piles or combustible materials on pallets, in racks <br />or on shelves where the top of storage is greater than 12 feet (3658 mm) in <br />height. Where required by the fire code official, high -piled combustible storage <br />also includes certain high -hazard commodities, such as rubber tires, Group A <br />plastics, flammable liquids, idle pallets and similar commodities, where the <br />top of storage is greater than 6 feet (1829 mm) in height. <br />"Any building classified as a group S Occupancy or Speculative <br />Building exceeding 6,000 sq. ft. that has a clear height in excess of 14 feet, <br />making it possible to be used for storage in excess of 12 feet, shall be <br />considered to be high -piled storage. When a specific product cannot be <br />identified, a fire protection system and life safety features shall be installed <br />as for Class IV commodities, to the maximum pile height." <br />"HIGH-RISE BUILDING. A building with an occupied floor located <br />more than -&S 35 feet (16 764 10.668 mm) above the lowest level of fire <br />department vehicle access." <br />"OPEN BURNING. The burning of materials wherein products of <br />combustion are emitted directly into the ambient air without passing through <br />a stack or chimney from an enclosed chamber. Open burning does not include <br />road flares, smudge pots and similar devices associated with safety or <br />occupational uses typically considered open flames, or use of portable outdoor <br />fireplaces. For the purpose of this definition, a chamber shall be regarded as <br />enclosed when, during the time combustion occurs, only apertures, ducts, <br />stacks, flues or chimneys necessary to provide combustion air and permit the <br />escape of exhaust gas are open. Recreational fires and bonfires are types of <br />open burning." <br />"REPAIR GARAGE. A building, structure or portion thereof used for <br />servicing or repairing motor vehicles. This occupancy shall also include <br />garages involved in minor repair, modification and servicing of motor vehicles <br />for items such as lube changes, inspections, windshield repair or replacement, <br />shocks, minor part replacement, and other such minor repairs." <br />"SELF-SERVICE STORAGE FACILITY. Real property designed and <br />used for the purpose of renting or leasing individual storage spaces to <br />customers for the purpose of storing and removing personal property on a <br />self-service basis." <br />"STANDBY PERSONNEL. Qualified fire service personnel, approved by <br />the Fire Chief, whose only duty shall be to perform constant patrols of the <br />7 <br />
