Item No. 19 <br />TO: Mayor & City Council <br />Grayson Path, City Manager <br />FROM: Janice Ellis, City Clerk <br />SUBJECT: GENERAL ELECTION CANVASSING OF RETURNS <br />DATE: November 9, 2020 <br />BACKGROUND: On January 27, 2020, by Resolution Number 2020-002, City Council ordered <br />the regular municipal election for the purpose of voters to elect Council Members from Districts <br />1, 2, 3 and 6. On February 24, 2020, the City Clerk issued a certificate of unopposed candidates <br />for candidates in Districts 1, 3, and 6. On February 24, 2020, by Ordinance No. 2020-008, City <br />Council declared candidates unopposed and elected in City Council Districts 1,3, and 6 for the <br />May 2, 2020 general election, and that no elections be held in those districts. On March 26, <br />2020, pursuant to the Governor's March 13, 2020, disaster declaration, and by Resolution No. <br />2020-012, the City Council postponed the general election for District 2 to Tuesday, November <br />3, 2020. <br />STATUS OF ISSUE: On November 3, 2020, a general election took place for the purpose of <br />voters to elect one Council Member from District 2. <br />In District 2, a total of 388 votes were cast, with Ed Darnell receiving a total of 167 votes and <br />Reginald B. Hughes receiving a total of 221 votes. Reginald B. Hughes received the majority of <br />votes cast. <br />BUDGET: N/A <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution declaring Reginald B. Hughes elected to serve <br />as City Council Member for District 2. <br />
