<br />RESOLUTION NO. 88-085 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Health, originally <br />funded by the U. S. Department of Agricultural, has <br />initiated cost saving measures that allow expansion of the <br />Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and <br />Children (WIC); and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the program's expansion has been made possible <br />at no additional cost to the taxpayers; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the statewide expansion efforts enable the <br />Paris/Lamar County WIC Project to serve 200 additional <br />citizens of Lamar County; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the WIC Program provides low-income women, <br />infants, and children under age five, who are at nutritional <br />risks, with supplemental foods, nutrition education, and <br />referral to health care; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the WIC Program has been proven effective for <br />the prevention of nutrition-related health problems such as <br />anemia, toxcemia, premature and low-birth weight infants, <br />and other maternal and pediatric illnesses; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the health of mothers, babies, and children of <br />Lamar County is of utmost priority; NOW, THEREFORE, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED That the City Council of the City of <br />Paris be on record that it supports the WIC Program and that <br />AUGUST 1988 be called Women, Infants, and Children's <br />Nutritional Month, and direct all citizens of Lamar County <br />to support the expansion of the WIC Program as a vital <br />assistance to the women, infants and children of Lamar <br />County. <br /> <br />Passed and adopted this <br /> <br />29th day of August, 1988. <br />I <br />Eri~ i~- <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />Mattie <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />am, <br /> <br />A7;:gORM: <br /> <br />~ <br />
